Name of Hall of Fame
The Du Quoin Community Unit School District #300 Athletic Hall of Fame shall be known as the Galen Davis Du Quoin High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The hall of fame is to be named after Mr. Galen Davis to recognize his contributions as a teacher, athlete, coach, administrator, board of education member, and academic and athletic historian to the Du Quoin schools and as a distinguished member of the Du Quoin community.
 
Establishment of the Athletic Hall of Fame
As part of the recognition program established as part of the newly formed District #300 Educational Foundation, in December 2006 the Du Quoin Community Unit School District #300 Board of Education voted unanimously to establish an athletic hall of fame. As well at the same time, the Board of Education voted unanimously to name the new athletic recognition program the “Galen Davis—Du Quoin School District #300 Athletic Hall of Fame”. This honor of naming the athletic hall of fame after Mr. Davis was done as an honor for his service to the Du Quoin School District, community, and the many years and hours devoted to researching and archiving the legacy of athletics in the school district of DuQuoin.
 
Mission and Purpose of the Athletic Hall of Fame
The mission and purpose of the Galen Davis Du Quoin Community Unit School District #300 Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize the accomplishments of those athletes, teams, coaches, administrators and other outstanding contributors to Du Quoin School Athletics through their service, performance, dedication, commitment or accomplishments.
 
Eligibility and Qualifications for the Hall of Fame
1. Athletes – Those who participated in Du Quoin High School Athletics having earned a varsity letter in a particular sport. Individual achievement may be used to determine qualification for induction to the Hall of Fame (examples are but not limited to - All-State, All-Conference, Athletic achievements in college, Olympic or amateur accomplishments and professional accomplishments). In addition the athlete must be a graduate of Du Quoin High school. Candidates may become eligible for induction ten (10) years after graduation.
2. Teams – Teams will be eligible for nomination ten (10) years after completion of the completion of the sport season. Team records and accomplishments (State Champions, State playoff participation, conference championships, etc.)will be used to determine induction to the Hall of Fame
3. Coaches – Coaches must have a coaching tenure of at least five (5) years at Du Quoin High School and will be eligible for nomination upon retirement or separation from Du Quoin High School.
4. Outstanding Contributors – Administrators, boosters, fans and any man or woman that has made outstanding contributions to Du Quoin High School Athletics. Outstanding contributors may are eligible for nomination during any nomination period.
**The Hall of Fame Committee may make exceptions to these criteria as warranted for extenuating circumstances
 
Nomination Process
Individuals, teams, coaches, and outstanding contributors may be nominated by community members, community groups, other individuals, and Hall of Fame Committee members. Nomination forms that include the name of the nominee, pertinent information about the nominee, and the name of the nominator will be available from the high school athletic director, middle school athletic director or on the Du Quoin school district web page.
 
Hall of Fame Committee
A hall of fame committee consisting of up to ten (10) people will make the selection of individual athletes, athletic teams, coaches and other outstanding contributors during each selection cycle. Initially the committee will make no more than ten (10) selections during each of the first three (3) cycles of the hall of fame induction process. The first three cycles of induction will consist of teams, coaches or athletes from Du Quoin Schools prior to 1955. With no more than five (5) selections made thereafter during each subsequent cycle.
 
Timeline of nomination, selection and recognition
Nominations to the Galen Davis/Du Quoin Community Unit School District #300 Athletic Hall of Fame will be accepted from January 15 until March 1 of each nomination/selection cycle. Selections to the Hall of Fame will take place prior to June 1 of each cycle. A recognition ceremony for Galen Davis/Du Quoin Community Unit School District #300 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will take place during the annual Du Quoin High School homecoming football game. The Galen Davis/ Du Quoin Community Unit School District #300 Athletic Hall of Fame banquet will take place on the Saturday following the Du Quoin High School homecoming football game.
 
Removal
Individuals selected to the Galen Davis/ Du Quoin Community Unit School District #300 Hall of Fame may be removed from the Hall of Fame at any time if the actions of the individual member or individual inductee warrants such action by the Hall of Fame Committee.
