HIS LEGS DO THE TALKING

After an incredible Olympics performance in 1996, Michael Johnson looks to add to his collection of gold medals in Sydney this summer. The track star and world record holder (200 and 400 meters) blew away his competition in Atlanta.

While media and fans have begun to question Johnson's ability to beat rival Maurice Greene in the 200, he doesn't seem threatened. The reigning Olympic champion refuses to get into a battle of words with Greene.

"I've handled it the same way, and I'm going to continue handling it the same way. I'm going to keep my mouth shut and let my legs do the talking."

Sometimes as a Christian I wish I would keep my mouth shut more and let my legs do the talking. I need to put some legs on my faith. It's easy to talk about faith. It's easy to say, "Love your neighbor." It's easy to talk about forgiving our enemies. It's easy to talk about trusting Jesus, but when the pressure is on, sometimes I choke. My mouth may be moving, but my legs seem to stay in place. I get tired and I may not feel like listening to my co-worker or going the extra mile.

But Jesus coaches us to put our faith into action. "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25

Listen to Jesus Christ. Don't just talk about his teaching. Don't just study God's words. Don't just discuss it. Don't just think it over. Hear God's words and put them into practice. Put those teachings into action. Now is the time to shut your mouth, and let your legs do the talking.

Christ my Coach,
